Top Influential Games that Made me the Gamer I Am Today

I played games since I was a little child. Oh yeh, of course, I am talking about video games. I still remember until this day playing DOS games on the IBM XT 286 (1987) and my neighbor had the Amiga.

I also played on the Sega Master System and Commodore 64. One of my first consoles was the Game & Watch series (1980-1991) consoles if you can call it a “console”.

There are many games that stay with me until this day. I mean, the memories. Playing these retro games is one of the things that revives childhood memories that otherwise would be lost among so many recent memories.

Many of these games influenced me so much that they define the games that I enjoy playing today. But of course, things changed. Now we have online multiplayer games, crazy visuals, 3D, amazing sound quality (BTW, remember the Sound Blaster card) and so much more.

I made a video (first part), sharing some of the games that influenced me the most as a gamer. I consider them The Best games that I played in my entire life because I still remember them and I remember how much I enjoyed them.

Here is the video.

Among those games we can find Half-Life 2, Wonderboy series, The Last of Us (Remastered, played it on the PS4), Space Quest / King’s Quest, Destiny 1, Civilization 5, The Great Giana Sisters, Skyrim V, The Bard’s Tale, The Last Ninja, Sim City, The Last of Us, Battlefield 3.

“..the only multiplayer gameplay experience back then was when I went with friends to the arcade to play the same game together”

The adventure games at that time made me love exploration, the open-world, and adventure games of today. Amazing retro games like King’s Quest (there is a modern version of it BTW), Space Quest, and Police Quest. King Quest IV will always be remembered as one of the most exciting adventure games that I played as a child.

As a kid, I was also influenced by arcade games. I love playing fighting games like Street Fighter and play Outrun, a very popular arcade car racing game. In fact, the only multiplayer gameplay experience back then was when I went with friends to the arcade to play the same game together.

Later in life, I found myself a lot more alone and this is where multiplayer games were feeling in the gap of the social vacuum that I had and I still have today.

Nowadays I still prefer a multiplayer experience to a single-player one, generally speaking. Why I enjoy playing Destiny on the PlayStation 4 so much. It was in fact my first PS4 game and one that brought me so many hours of joy. I met so many new friends, but only a few I still in tough with.

I don’t have a stable place and I move on from place to place, so right now I don’t nor it easy for me to buy a console (by that I mean the PS5 or Xbox Series X). So I game using my gaming laptop computer. The same computer I work with. I still enjoy gaming but I hope one day I can find a place to stay permanently and have the option to have my own private space to play and a big TV of my own.

That aside, when it comes to games, I now game on a PC and enjoying every single moment of it. From time to time I jump into playing some of these amazing old games and searching whether there are some recent remakes of these games that I used to play on the Commodore 64, old PCs and Sega Master System.

I continue to dig deep to try to find out more games that I might have forgotten about and share them with you, those who I have been influenced by the most.

I am a gamer since I was a child and it’s still today for me as an adult. That’s the thing I enjoy doing the most.
