Hey everyone, SpookyFairy here! I recently finished Dragon’s Dogma 2, and let me tell you, I have a lot to unpack. While I enjoyed the game overall, there’s a reason why I don’t think it quite measures up to a Game of the Year (GOTY) title.
Here’s why I gotta hold back on that GOTY crown:
- Performance Issues: No matter how beefy your rig is, the video mentions that many players, including myself, experienced performance issues, especially in crowded areas. We’re talking frame rate drops, graphical glitches – the whole shebang. Not exactly an immersive experience.
- Side Quests That Feel Like a Chore: Sure, some side quests were fun, but overall they felt repetitive and underdeveloped. Not exactly what you’d expect from a GOTY contender.
- Questionable Design Choices: The video talks about some head-scratching design decisions. Saving and fast travel felt clunky and outdated, like they yanked you straight out of a 2010 game. Imagine losing hours of progress because of a janky save system – not cool.
- Remake Vibes, Not Sequel Feels: This one stings a bit. The video argues that the game feels more like a remake than a true sequel. It doesn’t address the weaknesses of the first game, which might be a disappointment for veterans.
- Microtransactions? In My Dragon’s Dogma?: The video slams the presence of microtransactions, especially for things like character editing and other essentials. Come on, that just feels greedy.
- Walking Simulator 2024: The video complains about all the walking with no mount to speak of. Exploration can feel like a chore, and the loot wasn’t exactly exciting enough to keep me motivated.
- Combat Fun, But Flawed: The video acknowledges that the combat system can be a blast, especially when you’re grappling onto giant monsters. But it can also be clunky at times, which breaks the flow of battle.
- Same Enemies, Different Day: The repetitive enemy design is another point the video brings up. We’re talking palette swaps with a stat bump here, folks. Not exactly the most inspiring bestiary.
- Post-Game Blues: Unlike Elden Ring, which had me coming back for three playthroughs, the video says there just wasn’t enough to keep me hooked after the credits rolled.
- Lootsplosion Overload: The video criticizes the overwhelming amount of loot the game throws at you. Tons of crafting materials and items flood your inventory, but most of it feels meaningless.
Look, Dragon’s Dogma 2 isn’t a bad game. But with all these shortcomings, it doesn’t quite reach GOTY material for me. It lacks that special spark that leaves you saying “wow” after the finish line. You know, that feeling Elden Ring gave me? Exactly.
So, that’s my two cents on Dragon’s Dogma 2. What are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments below, and if you have any other game recommendations, hit me up!
