If you follow my previous post, you know that I’ve decided to buy the Edifier R1700BTs Bluetooth 5.0 Bookshelf computer speakers.
Theoretically, at least on paper, it should answers my needs. However, the question is, how these speakers will perform in my little room and whether I like how they sound. This includes playing my favorite music, playing games and watching movies.
So today I tested them for the first time. I unboxed the Edifier R1700BTs, plugged it in and test it out. It’s important to note that as of the time of making my initial review, my room is not well design acoustically and I am working to improve that. I also couldn’t make an in-depth sound test of the R1700BTs due to that and the lack of proper equipment.
That being said, I can share a small sound test and my experience, including unboxing, pairing it with the computer and more interesting and important stuff.
As you can see and hear from the video above, I am overwhelmy pleased with the Edifier R1700BTs. The sound quality is AMAZING with enough bass to satisfy my needs and not overwhelm my little room. There is an option for an external subwoofer, but no way I’ll use one in such a small space.
How Good the Bass is on the Edifier R1700BTs? – LOVE IT!

This is important question and a thing that bothers lots of people looking for these type of small monitor speakers. I remember listening to the MR4 vs R1700BTs and I remember hearing that the bass of the MR4 is not enough. Not that the R1700BTs is strong, but is just the right amount that satisfy me. It’s rounded, soft and very satisfying to listen to–in both low and high volumes.
Are the Edifier R1700BTs Too Big as Computer Speakers?

The speakers are somewhat mid, not too small, not too large. Might be large for some depends on your room/desk setup and needs. I found them just the perfect size.
R1700BTs Construction Durability – QUALITY!

The Edifier R1700BTs are made from MDF wood with a walnut-vinyl finish. MDF is a type of wood that is very dense and strong, which makes it ideal for speakers. The walnut-vinyl finish gives the speakers a classic and elegant look.
What is the Sound Quality like on the Edifier R1700BTs?
The sound quality is fantastic. I was truly surprised how good it is considering the size and price of the R1700BTs.
The bass is round and warm. And although not prominent, still there and sound very satisfying, especially for a small room. Mids are also good, maybe very slightly on the “muddy” side and less separation then I would have preferred, but you can’t expect everything to be perfect in a $100 speaker.
The sound is rich and satisfying, not flat as some of the other monitor speakers I was hearing comparisons of. There might be some speakers that may look better and are smaller, but you don’t buy speakers for the look of it (or maybe you do) and the size just help the speaker produce better sound. At the end of the day, I want to be immersed with the music and that’s the highest priority, and in that aspect, the Edifier R1700BTs delivers big time in a small package.
I listen to a wide variety of genres, including pop, hip-hop, rock, R&B, Jazz, Electronic, and classical music in the evenings–all sound great on the Edifier R1700BTs Bluetooth 2.0 stereo speakers.
So that’s true for both music and singing (voices). Good sound separation and no listening fatigue.
I still haven’t used an equalizer, plan to experiment with a free equalizer software on Windows 11 soon.
Are the Edifier R1700BTs worth the price?
If there are Bluetooth bookshelf speakers–slash–computer speakers that worth their price and beyond–these are the Edifier R1700BTs speakers.
As of the time of writing, the speakers are not available on Amazon.com, probably sold out.

I can’t tell that I’m surprised.
Defiantly worth buying!
