Overprime is Different than Original Paragon and Predecessor

Call them Paragon 2 or Paragon remakes, the remakes of Paragon are here. The two leading ones are Paragon: The Overprime and PRedecessor.

Two third-third person (TPP) MOBA games built using Paragon assets which were released by Epic Games for devs to build upon.

I played both Paragon The Overprime and Predecessor in their respective playtests.

I found out the Overprime is very much different than the original Paragon and Predecessor.

Just so you know, Paragon: The Overprime and Predecessor are made by two different developers and are competing against each other in the Paragon remake space. Paragon: The Overprime is being developed by Netmarble F&C Team SoulEve and Predecessor is being developed by Omeda Studios. Predecessor early access starts on December 1, and Overprime on December 8th, 2022.

So why Overprime is So Different than Paragon and Predecessor?

First of all, the maps are very much different. But what really made a big difference is that Overprime has only a single outer tower before the inhibitor, while Predecessor has two. That alongside some balancing leads to Overprime turning into a brawl relatively soon and the lane phase is very short.

This is at least according to the current meta. Some characters are also very powerful than others, leading to an even shorter lane phase. Also, some players know that and try to force quick elimination of the tower and then the entire game opens up for group fights.

But thing is that MOBA games aren’t built around continuous group fights but focus on the lane phase to build momentum, taking objectives and micromanaging and adapting to changes in the game.

I understand people enjoy group fights a lot, same as I enjoy it in Overwatch, but Overprime doesn’t feel like a MOBA game, but 20% MOBA 80% Hero shooter.

This leads me to believe that MOBA fans won’t really like how Overprime plays right now and prefer a slower pace, more calculated micromanaged game that focuses on objectives and careful strategic plays than lots of brawls.

Again, I enjoy Overprime a lot, because I love action-hero games and MOBA, but it’s missing so much in terms of the MOBA fun.

It even feels far less than the original Paragon game. Yes, the original Paragon has issues and I do like devs to improve upon the original formula. But thing is that people liked it for a reason and people love playing MOBA games for those particular reasons that I mentioned.

Overprime might feel great but eventually, you’ll realize that it misses the magic moments that only MOBA games can produce and can even eventually be boring watching as an eSport game.

Yes, not we are all excited and pumped but think if you really going to enjoy Overprime game loop longer compared to a more classic MOBA game.

I am leaning towards Predecessor, and I do believe that Overprime’s devs will make more balancing changes to the game. So it’s not that the current state of both games really tells us how it’s going to be shaped in a few months’ time.

Are MOBA Games Dying?

On the other hand, some think that MOBA days are gone and it’s only ruled by LoL and Dota 2. Many MOBAs that have been released either struggle or died and there is no more place for new MOBA games. Some might prefer Overprime for that particular reason. Maybe Overprime’s dev wants to adapt to the hero shooter “trend” and blend it in with MOBA? — A good idea? — Time will tell.

I am going to play both and eventually continue to put more time into the game that I enjoy playing better.

Which one do you prefer?
