The Avada Kedavra spell is one of the most powerful and infamous spells in the wizarding world. One of the Unforgivable Curses. Known for its ability to instantly kill the target, it is a spell that is often associated with dark magic and evil intent. In Hogwarts Legacy, a video game set in the wizarding world of Harry Potter, the Avada Kedavra spell is a potent and dangerous tool and pretty much broken in my opinion.
While the use of the Avada Kedavra spell is strictly forbidden in the wizarding world, there are certain situations where it may be necessary. For example, in the midst of a battle against dark wizards or creatures, the use of this spell may be the only way to protect oneself and others. However, the consequences of using the spell are severe and could result in serious legal repercussions, as well as the weight of the moral consequences of taking a life.

In Hogwarts Legacy, players have the opportunity to explore the wizarding world in a whole new way. As a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, players are able to learn a variety of spells and magical abilities, including the Avada Kedavra spell. However, the game is not including significant limitations on the use of such a powerful spell, in order to balance the gameplay and ensure a fair and enjoyable experience for all players. This is why I think it’s too OP and should have been balanced in a way.
As one of the three Unforgivable Curses, the Avada Kedavra spell is notoriously difficult to cast, requiring a great deal of concentration and focus. In the game, players may need to complete a series of quests and progress through the game’s story mode in order to unlock the ability to use this spell.
Another possible limitation could be the moral consequences of using the spell. In the Harry Potter series, characters who use the Avada Kedavra spell are often portrayed as being deeply troubled or outright evil, as the spell is associated with the taking of human life. In Hogwarts Legacy, there isn’t any loss of points for the player’s Hogwarts House, or even outright expulsion from the school. If that were the case, which I personally would have preferred, this would add an additional layer of complexity to the game, forcing players to consider the moral implications of their actions.
Ultimately, the inclusion of the Avada Kedavra spell in Hogwarts Legacy is sure to be a controversial topic among fans of the Harry Potter franchise. However, because it’s not handled “correctly”, the spell does not add a significant level of depth and challenge to the game. Whether players choose to use the spell or not, its presence in the game is sure to make for an exciting and immersive experience in the world of Hogwarts.
