Chorus turned out to be one of my favorite games of 2021 and one of the better games I played in recent years. Why you ask?–it was something different, well-executed, and brilliantly designed all-around space shooter/adventure game.
What is Chorus?
Chorus is a third-person space-shooter / adventure game, developed by Deep Silver Fishlabs. In this game, you play Nara, a female protagonist on her quest to destroy the dark cult that created her.
However, the entire game you actually control a spaceship, which you’ll be upgrading and improving. You do so by exploration, quests, puzzles and of course, immersive and stunning dogfight battles in space.

Epic Dogfight Space Battles
That game follows a narrative with cutscenes, but all balanced very well with lots of combat and exploration. Most of the time you’ll be exploring and fighting other spaceships and some tougher enemies, including bosses.
I played Chorus on the PlayStation 5 and it runs super smooth. You do have the option to choose between Resolution and Performance mode, I chose Performance mode and it ran super smooth throughout without any noticeable frame drops.
The combat is absolutely brilliant due to beautiful space vistas, visual effects, dynamic music and super-tight controls. The game also supports the DualSense controllers on the PS5 and rumble is really a must, in my opinion, for this type of game!
Chorus has a Photo Mode by the way.
In the chorus, you’ll be dogfighting, infiltrating and destroying big spaceships, racing other ships, doing some shooting puzzles, fighting bosses, doing fun side quests–and now of them felt tiring. It’s the combination of using the flight mechanics to do different tasks that really make the gameplay so entertaining.
Chorus Game Play Time Length – A Rich Experience
I played Chorus quite a lot for about 3 days and finished it. Looking at the game’s profile page on the PS5, I see that I played it for 20 hours. And this is from start to after the credit starts rolling. There isn’t any special mode unlocked, unfortunately–I think they should have added one. However, you do have the option to resume the game and reset back to the point before the final rally and boss fight.
But listen carefully. I felt that I played a very complete game with amazing memories that will stay with me. It didn’t feel short because it was such a fulfillment experience.
I finished the game feeling that I played something great and not something I can say to so many games that I played in 2021 and even many years before that.
The game doesn’t stretch unnecessarily and make sure that you’ll enjoy every minute playing it. Exploration is fun and the game rewards you for that.
Summary
I won’t be exaggerating that Chorus was one of my favorite games of 2021 by far and I even delayed finishing The Last Of Us 2 because I couldn’t put my controller down—it’s just that good.
I can’t imagine how amazing it would be to play this with a friend in co-op, but it’s a single-player game, but a very good one indeed.
You really get a triple-A-quality game here. This game really came at the right time where I had enough of regular FPS games and wanted something different to play.
I highly recommend playing the game, even if you weren’t into space shooters before. It’s a breath of fresh air and one of the better games you can play in 2021 and I recommend at least trying the free demo on Steam to see if it’s for your liking.
