As of the time of writing this article, there seems to be no intention, nor an official word about a patch for Cyberpunk 2077 that will allow players to play the game in the third-person perspective (TPP). Some players already talking about having a MOD that will enable a third-person perspective if the developer won’t release it themselves.
A mod (short for “modification”) is an alteration by players or fans of a video game that changes one or more aspects of a video game, such as how it looks or behaves.
Many players want to play the game in a 3rd-person view for several reasons. Some want to be able to see the character with the new cyberwar that they found, like enjoy seeing your character with a new Armor (e.g. helmet, armor) in a medieval RPG game. Enjoy sharing gameplay on YouTube while showing off their new amazing gear.
Others prefer playing in the TPP because they feel motion sickness when playing in first-person view.
Keep in mind that there will be situations, like when driving, where you will be able to see your character (or part of it) in the third-person perspective but other than that, the entire game is in 1st person view.

You will be able to see yourself in a mirror or a reflection or in the inventory screen or at certain shops like the one in the image above.
I can understand the player’s frustration and I do believe that at some point we will get to have an option to change to TPP. Imagine playing a game like Demon’s Souls, for example, it’s cool watching gameplay showing your new gear. It’s part of the fun unlocking new gear. Of course, that game was designed around that 3rd person view but still.
I don’t think that we’ll get to see a downloadable patch for Cyberpunk 2077 that enabled third-person when the game is released or shortly after. However, I have a feeling that people will create a MOD that will enable this, not something from the official developer, but kind of a hack that will change the position of the camera to enable players to play in 3rd person perspective.
I’m pretty sure that if there will be such a MOD, many will want to try it out, but there might be consequences to that if it’s not officially supported or released by the developer itself.
We’ll see how things progress but as for now, the dream of having a third-person option in Cyberpunk 2077 seems far from reality.
